Ridgefield HS Freshman wants you to "Shake it Off" for Parkinson's Disease

Go Ahead “Shake It Off” For Parkinson’s Disease

Zoe Butchen, who is a freshman at Ridgefield High School, is trying to help her Dad, Jeff, and everyone else who is afflicted with Parkinson’s Disease and so she is “Shaking It Off” with the help of Taylor Swift’s mega hit song. Her dad was diagnosed at age 51 with Parkinson’s disease a year and a half ago; and Zoe has created a video challenge to raise awareness, as well as money, for Parkinson’s research. The call to action asks you to dance and challenge others to do the same and then post the video on Facebook and make a donation through the donation link on the family’s website, www.danceshakedonate.com.

Zoe got the idea from the hugely successful ALS Ice Bucket Challenge this summer, and they’re hoping their idea will go viral too.

What is Parkinson’s? Well, millions have it worldwide. It’s a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement. It develops gradually, starting usually with a slight noticeable tremor in just one hand.

You can donate to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or the American Parkinson Disease Association through the website danceshakedonate.com.

To make a donation, go to www2.michaeljfox.org/goto/danceshakedonate.
