Thursday, March 12 at 7pm at Danbury Fair mall (by Lord & Taylor, 1st floor), 7 Backus Avenue, Danbury

According to Housatonic Habitat Executive Director Fran Normann, “We are looking for families who qualify to buy a Habitat home. There are three main qualifications: You must live or work in in our 15 town affiliate area; have a job with a minimum family income in the $50,000 to $75,000 range; and have demonstrated a need for simple, decent and affordable housing. We are offering a hand up, not a hand out. Housatonic Habitat has built 27 homes in the area since it was founded in 1991.

Family Selection Chair Ernest Lehman added, “People who are applying to see if they qualify to purchase a house from Housatonic Habitat for Humanity must show a need for better housing and be able to make monthly mortgage payments. Habitat would like to accept everyone who qualifies, but unfortunately we can only afford to build a certain number of houses. Another important part of the Habitat criteria is willingness for family members ages 16 and older to put in “sweat” equity on their home or other Habitat projects.”

Habitat homes are sold at cost and are 1,100 sf with 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. Housatonic Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, color, age, handicap, religion, national origin, marital or familial status or because all or part of the income is derived from any public assistance program that will produce income for the long term. Housatonic Habitat requires that sex offender registry and criminal background checks be conducted.
