Wendy's Story:

On Feb. 4, 2015, World Cancer Day, Wendy, a 45-year-old wife and mom of 3, found out she has breast cancer. Doctors first said it was Invasive Ductal Cancer (IDC), a very common, highly treatable cancer. But on Feb. 23 after a lumpectomy to remove the tumor, doctors said it is actually Metaplastic Carcinoma, a very rare and aggressive type of cancer that only occurs in 1% of women compared to the other types which occurs in 80%. Triple Negative is also rare, only occurring in 15% of women who are diagnosed.

The good news is that it hasn't spread to her lymph nodes and she is only Stage 1. The bad news is that this type of cancer can come back and spread to other parts of the body (bones, skin, lungs, etc.) so she will need lifelong monitoring and care. Wendy began 16 weeks of intense chemotherapy on April 9 and will be undergoing chemo in the weeks leading up to Relay for Life, and after.

Anyone who knows Wendy knows that she is strong, sassy, feisty and fierce and she will win this battle. She would love nothing more than to have her friends and family join "Wendy's Warriors" team through relaying with us or making a donation to fund research and find a cure for this horrible disease.

Wendy is also using her diagnosis to raise awareness for early detection to remind people to do monthly self breast exams using the hash tag #MyLeftBoob.

Will you join Wendy's fight? Wendy's Warriors team is taking action to keep fighting the good fight so that nobody has to suffer from this horrible disease.
