Regional Hospice holds Press Conference & announces exciting news

Today, Friday, July 31, 2015, was a monumental day for Regional Hospice and Home Care of Danbury CT. The nonprofit, state-licensed and Medicare-certified home health care and hospice agency announced during a Press Conference that they were chosen as Connecticut’s only Medicare Choices Model award winner. Not only is Regional Hospice the only participant chosen in the state, but it is also one of 50% nationally that has been invited to participate for the full five years of the study.

This exciting news means that patients need not give give up treatment or give up hope. They will now be able to receive the medical treatment they need while in the care of Regional Hospice. Patients and their families can now transition to hospice at an earlier point in their illness - rest assured they are getting the treatment, comfort and care that they need and deserve.

The Medicare Choices Model provides Medicare beneficiaries who qualify for coverage under the Medicare Hospice Benefit and dually eligible beneficiaries who qualify for the Medicaid Hospice Benefit, the option to elect to receive supportive care services typically provided by hospice and continue to receive curative services at the same time.

Elizabeth Esty, U.S. Representative for Connecticut's 5th congressional district, spoke at the Press Conference. "Choosing treatment or choosing support, we're a great enough country to provide both," Esty said. A great asset for Regional Hospice, Etsy has always been responsive and worked diligently toward achieving this milestone for Regional Hospice.

Regional Hospice is known for their exceptional end of life care, but also provides extensive loving care and support for those who have lost a loved one. This includes children, teens, and adults of any age. They have rooms specially designed for each age group, therapy dogs and a state of the art outdoor playscape. The “Healing Hearts Playground” is located just outside of Healing Hearts Center for Grief & Loss, a program of Regional Hospice that provides grief support services to the community at no charge.

As we celebrate this type of care for hospice patients, we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Medicare and the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, both this week.
