United Way to Host 25th Annual Back to School Drive in Danbury

United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC) is proud to host its 25th annual Back to School Drive to support families in greater Danbury.

The Back to School Drive will provide 245 children with a backpack full of grade level appropriate school supplies and assistance for back to school clothes shopping.

The Drive will take place (rain or shine) on Tuesday, August 16 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Shelter Rock School (2 Crows Nest Lane).

This event is the signature project for area businesses to join together to advance volunteerism and help meet community needs. This year, 16 area businesses, civic groups and individuals sponsored children by providing them with a backpack filled with schools supplies and a $100 gift card to purchase school clothing. Members of our Youth Volunteer Corps of Western CT will also be on hand to volunteer at this drive. A total of 245 children were given the resources they need to be prepared for school. The estimated cost of sponsoring one child is $175, and the total value of donated items was $42,875.

“Our Back to School Drive in Danbury is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Kim Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut. “This is a day that we pull together the generous resources in greater Danbury to assist families in need during a time that is meant to be exciting. The program alleviates the financial stress associated with getting a child ready for school and is one way that United Way assists hard-working families in Danbury that have difficulty making ends meet.”
