Danbury Youth Services’16th Annual Butterfly Breakfast a Modest Success

DYS raised more than $15,000 at its annual fundraiser, falling short of its goal during lean times

Danbury Youth Services raised more than $15,000 through its 16th Annual Butterfly Breakfast fundraiser held at the Amber Room Colonnade last week. Approximately 120 people attended.

The event, which honored Lynne Kilbourn and her late husband, Clyde, for their extensive support of the Earn-a-Bike program, featured a live auction and raffle of prizes donated by local and regional businesses, as well as a full breakfast complete with gourmet waffle bar and barista station. It was hosted by comedian/motivational speaker Tim Washer, whose dry wit kept the room lively with laughter.

Major sponsors of the 2017 Butterfly Breakfast include Union Savings Bank, title sponsor; Newtown Savings Bank, platinum sponsor; Lion's Paw & Co., gold sponsor; Cary Kortze, Christ Church and Winters Brothers, all crystal sponsors; and Kovacs Construction, Levine Automotive, and Pembroke Pumping, all silver sponsors.

This year's breakfast income falls short of the agency's $20,000 goal, a crucial difference in the wake of $62,000 in cuts to state funding of its Summer Youth Employment Program.

The mission of DYS is to strengthen youth and families by supporting and fostering hope, and teaching the skills necessary to lead positive and productive lives. For more information on our programs, please visit www.danburyyouthservices.org.
