LARRY HADDAD QUINTET
This Wednesday, April 23, from 6:30 to 8:30, No cover
Featuring: Larry Haddad, alto saxophone; Jacob Varmus, trumpet; Nobuki Takamen, guitar; Sam Trapchak, bass; Barry Ries, drums
We're pleased to have Larry back at the Pizzeria. The Danbury native has a great sound on the saxophone and brings a talented quintet. Larry grew up listening to his first real influence, his father Charlie Haddad, playing the tenor sax. He later listened to Art Pepper, Dexter Gordon, and John Coltrane. Besides his dad, he credits two important teachers, local sax great Jim LaPine, and the late legendary saxophonist Jackie McLean at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford.
Larry's debut CD "I'll Remember April," recorded at the Hartt School, is a beautiful collection of tunes by Dexter Gordon, Hank Mobley, and the Sammy Cahn-Jule Styne title track, as well as some intriguing originals.
