Danbury Library Hosts 7 Authors for a Publishing Panel on Sunday

If the idea of navigating the ever-changing world of publishing has you spooked, a panel of seven authors plans to change that at a panel discussion on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 1 – 4 p.m. in Danbury Public Library’s Farioly Program Room.

Publishing has changed dramatically over the last 10 years, offering writers more and varied ways of ushering their work into the world. The authors at Sunday’s panel will discuss the different paths they pursued and that you can too. Light refreshments will be served and door prizes distributed.

Registration is required online at danburylibrary.org. Click on “Events,” or phone (203) 797-4527 for more information.

The panel of authors:

Mary Beth Bass writes lyrical science fiction and fantasy romance novels for adults and teens. Her stories are darkly romantic with a thread of hopefulness: everything you know, a young adult fantasy; in the place where she fell, an adult science fiction romance; Follow Me, a paranormal women’s fiction hybrid; and All That We See, the sequel to everything you know coming in October 2014. She loves 19th century poetry, 21st century punk rock, all-weather hiking and contemplating the awesomeness of octopuses. Find her at marybethbass.com.

Debbie Christiana loves things that go bump in the night, mysteries and unusual love stories. This led her to write paranormal romance, published by Black Opal Books and short fiction that has been included in a number of dark/horror anthologies. When not writing, you can find Debbie reading, at yoga, or hiking the Appalachian Trail with her husband and Yellow Lab puppy. Debbie is a member of RWA, is Secretary of her local RWA chapter and a member International Thrillers Writers, Inc. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and three children. Laura K. Curtis has always done everything backwards. As a child, she was extremely serious, so now that she's chronologically an adult, she feels perfectly justified in acting the fool. She started teaching at age fifteen, then decided to go back to school herself at thirty. And she wrote her first book in first grade. It was released in (notebook) paperback to rave reviews and she's been trying to achieve the same level of acclaim ever since. The author of crime fiction, romance, and romantic suspense, she lives in Westchester County, NY with her husband and a pack of wild Irish Terriers, which has taught her how easily love can coexist with the desire to kill.

Erika Kelly has been a storyteller most of her life. Growing up in Los Angeles and being involved in the entertainment industry, she started out writing screenplays. But the medium frustrated her, so she tried to shake things up with a creative exercise. To her tremendous surprise, a 650-page love story poured out of her. It may have been awful and ridiculously long (though, secretly, she still loves it!), but it was the most fun she’d had writing in ages. And so she’d found her true voice as a writer. Since then, she’s written dozens of contemporary romances, from YA to New Adult to single title. What does age matter when you’re talking about finding the love of your life?! Recently, she’s had the unbelievably good fortune of selling a series to Berkley Publishing Group. The first book is titled You Really Got Me, coming in January 2015. Find her on Facebook (Erika Kelly) and erikakellybooks.com.

Jenna Kernan writes fast-paced romantic adventures for Harlequin Historical and Harlequin Nocturne. She has penned over two dozen novels, has received two RITA nominations and in 2010 won the Book Buyers Best Award for her debut paranormal romance. Her novella, A FAMILY FOR THE RANCHER is included in this month's anthology collection, WILD WEST CHRISTMAS, and will be available for purchase today along with her September paranormal romance, THE VAMPIRE'S WOLF. Jenna loves an adventure. Her hobbies include recreational gold prospecting, scuba diving and gem hunting. Find her at jennakernan.com.

Renée Paley-Bain collaborates with her husband Donald Bain on the MURDER, SHE WROTE series of original mysteries. She is also a freelance non-fiction book doctor. Earlier in her career, she worked as a public relations professional, newspaper editor and reporter, and advertising and speech writer. She is a member of the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers, the Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, the Romance Writers of America, and the Authors Guild. Find her on donaldbain.com.

Sharon Struth believes you’re never too old to pursue a dream. The Hourglass, her debut novel, is a finalist in the National Readers' Choice Awards for Best first Book. Her next release, SHARE THE MOON-Book one in the Blue Moon Lake Novel Series-is published by Kensington Books/Lyrical Press. She writes from the friendliest place she’s ever lived, Bethel, Connecticut, along with her husband, two daughters and canine companions. Find her at sharonstruth.com.
