Cool Music from Danbury Music Centre Students

Two Days, Two Concerts

The Summer Bands and Summer Strings concerts will be presented by the Danbury Music Centre this week and next. Admission to both concerts is free.

Students perform

The performance of the Summer Strings Ensembles will take place on Friday, August 1, at 7:30pm at Broadview Middle School on Hospital Avenue in the air conditioned auditorium.

Under the direction of Larry Deming and Alison Corigliano, the strings groups will perform a program of favorite tunes including Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" and "My Heart Will Go On" – the famous theme from the blockbuster movie Titanic. The grand finale of the concert will be toe-tapping rendition of the fiddle tune "Sally Goodin," arranged by Mr. Deming. The string groups are comprised of students of all ages who have spent their summer playing a string instrument.

Executive Director Mary E. Larew said, "It is such a pleasure to watch these students working together. Some students are new to their instruments; some have played for years, and lend a real leadership to the whole ensemble. They are sounding great and I can't wait to hear the concert."

There will be More to Come

Then on Thursday, August 7, at 7:30pm at Broadview Middle School the Danbury Music Centre's Summer Bands will perform.

Albert Montecalvo and Tony Nunes will direct the jazz, symphonic, concert, and preparatory bands.

The jazz band will pay a tribute to Duke Ellington. The symphonic, concert and preparatory bands will play a variety of well-known pieces including Let it Go, Home, and a medley from the popular Broadway hit show, Phantom of the Opera.

Students of all ages from Danbury and many surrounding towns will participate in this concert.

Associate Director Barbara Adams Jaeger said, "I enjoy hearing these bands so much. And if I listen carefully, I can hear Albert scatting in the background! It brings back memories of my own band days." To be sure, this concert will be a good night out; it is not to be missed!
