University of Notre Dame pays tribute to Rebecca Townsend

As students at University of Notre Dame begin class, we remember Rebecca Draper Townsend who was accepted into the Class of 2019 and was so very excited to attend. Rebecca was tragically killed after being struck by a car in Danbury on July 2, 2015, just one month after graduating as one of the top ten in the Immaculate High School Class of 2015.

Since her death, the world is paying  tribute to Rebecca Draper Townsend, a 17 year old Brookfield resident. Rememering Rebecca Facebook Page has more than 38K likes and counting.

Rebecca was philanthropic to the core, full of life, love and joy. She started“She’s the First” (STF) at Immaculate, a non-profit that sponsors girls’ education, with the goal of creating more first-generation graduates and our next generation of global leaders.

Please take a moment to read the latest post her family shared on "Remembering Rebecca" Facebook page

From the minute that news of Rebecca's passing reached Notre Dame, the entire school, including incoming students, alums, and people who never met Rebecca have reached out to her family to affirm Rebecca's place in the ND Class of 2019.

From the Notre Dame Club of the Northern Hudson Valley offering a mass in Rebecca's honor, to the Notre Dame Club of Greater Cincinnati dedicating a Habitat for Humanity build to Rebecca's memory, to her future classmates organizing a bracelet fundraiser for her during orientation to ensure that her memory will never be forgotten, to the countless notes and messages we have received during this difficult time, we cannot begin to thank the school for everything they have done.

In Rebecca's memory, a scholarship has been set up at Notre Dame, which will go to a female student who is the first person in her family to attend college, who otherwise would not be able to afford a Notre Dame education. Rebecca was a champion of girls' education everywhere through She's the First, and this is a chance for her to be able to continue to spread her legacy.
