The local area likely will be impacted by 2 storms Monday and Tuesday, February 8 and 9. NWS Meteorologist, Peter Wichrowski, says he has moderate to high confidence that there will be a prolonged period of unsettled weather with intermittent light snow from Late tonight through Wednesday, although exact accumulations though remain uncertain.
Storm 1, Late tonight into Monday: An offshore storm will likely bring a light accumulating snow to Eastern Long Island and Southeastern Connecticut late Tonight and Monday, with a chance for light snow accumulations westward into New York City, Northeastern New Jersey, and the Lower Hudson Valley.
Although not likely, there is still the potential for this low to track a little closer to the coast, which would bring a moderate snowfall to Long Island and Connecticut and possibly even points to the west.
In addition, a new moon on Monday will bring higher than normal astronomical tides. This will bring the potential for localized minor coastal flood impacts during the Monday late morning/early afternoon and Monday night high tides.
Storm 2, Monday Night into Tuesday Night: Another low pressure system is forecast to develop across the Mid-Atlantic States and bring the potential for more snow and minor tidal flooding during this time.
A lingering trough of low pressure may result in additional light snow through Wednesday.
