Make a Wish Come True AND Become a Master Gardener at This Week's Monroe Farmers' Market

At this week's Monroe Farmers' Market, on Friday from 3-6 PM on the Town Green, local Junior High School students will be raising funds at the Lemonade Stand for the Make a Wish Foundation.

Seventh-grade students Colton DeLeo and Aaron Irish-Donini are playing on the Make-A-Wish Connecticut Lacrosse Team this Summer. They will be selling drinks and prepackaged snacks at the Lemonade Stand in order to help raise money for the foundation which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in Connecticut.

Also at This Week's Market:

Master Gardener Program: Master Gardeners from the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System's Educational Outreach Program will be available to answer questions about all aspects of gardening, including ornamentals, vegetables and turf grass.

National Night Out: On Tuesday, August 5, 2014, residents of Monroe are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. Co-sponsored locally by the Monroe Police Department, this event will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. Local representatives will be at the market with more information on this free event.

Clothing donations: Representatives from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut will be at the market to collect your donations of "gently used" clothing and household goods. Help support a worthy cause that embraces the reduce, reuse and recycle philosophy. You will get a tax donation form if you bring used clothes, shoes, books, bedding, housewares, small appliances, and children's toys or games.

This week's market is sponsored in part by Energy PRZ and Community Energy.
