William J. Bodnar, age 86, of Bethel, CT died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Frances (Helbig) Bodnar.
He was born April 13, 1928 in Portage, PA, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Czel) Bodnar youngest of eight children. He was a Mechanical Engineer working at the Edwards Company in Norwalk for 34 years and then was a part-owner of Jared Manufacturing for 10 years before his retirement in 1993.
Bill loved his family, the garden, birds, traveling and big band music. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Bethel.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his son: Richard Bodnar and his wife Regina of Woodbury, CT; his daughter: Diana Land and her husband Mark of Altamonte Springs, FL; his surviving brother: James Bodnar of Fairfield, CT; 2 grandchildren: Jeffrey Bodnar and his wife Jill, Linda (Bodnar) Pollicita and her husband Chris all of Naugatuck, CT; 1 great granddaughter: Lilyana and a step great grandson: Alvin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter-in-law: Leslie Bodnar.
The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Wednesday morning at 10:00. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.
