Yoga with Wolves

Enjoy conscious movement, relaxation, and a chorus of howls at the Wolf Conservation Center’s special program – Yoga with wolves!  Join Yoga Culture’s Jenny Schuck to practice asana to find balance with nature.  All levels of yoga experience are welcome.  The one-hour yoga session will be followed by 30 minutes of optional restoration/relaxation and while viewing WCC's Ambassador Wolves. Yoga mats will NOT be provided, please bring your own. The Future of the Monarch Butterfly: What Can We Do?

DESCRIPTION:  Chris Evers, Director and Founder of Animal Embassy, will present his experience observing the amazing migration of the Monarch butterfly. Explore the incredible lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly and learn about the challenges & threats faced by this beautiful insect, as well as what we can do to make a difference. We will also discover the vibrant colors and patterns of several live Animal Ambassadors, including a Sinaoloan Milk snake, a Blue Poison Dart frog, Red-eyed tree frogs and a Day gecko. We’ll learn how colors can send a warning to potential predators, attract a mate or regulate an animal’s temperature. Also, we will find out how patterns aid an animal with camouflage and with mimicry of more dangerous species. After the talk, guests will visit WCC Ambassador wolves, as well as the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. Full Moon Wolf Walk for Adults only

Celebrate the November full moon with the Wolf Conservation Center’s 20 moon-loving  wolves! While enjoying Nature’s summertime chatter by the WCC's outdoor fire pit, guests will enjoy wine and cheese and the symphony of howls from the wolves that call the WCC home. Guests will learn about the history of wolves in the United States, the importance of wolves in a healthy ecosystem and the efforts to save these magnificent creatures for future generations.  Guests will also take will take a short moonlit walk to visit Wolves Atka, Alawa, Zephyr and 7-month-old Ambassador Wolf pup Nikai!   Please bring flashlights. Join us for a special Evening Howl and enjoy visiting the wolves during their favorite hour - dusk.  Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolves in North America while enjoying a lovely spread of wine and cheese.  Guests will take a short sunset hike to howl with Ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa, and Zephyr as well as the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves. Six-month-old Ambassador wolf pup Nikai will also be on view so don’t forget a camera! This program is for adults 21 years old and over. Pre-registration is required.  Each guest will receive an official 2014 Wolf Awareness Week poster! Join us for this special opportunity to photograph the WCC’s Ambassador wolves: Atka , Alawa, and Zephyr, and Nikai in the warm glow of the sunset! Guests will also be given access to photograph the WCC's critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves from vantage points not generally available during regular visits.  Pre-registration is required.  Space is very limited, so make your reservation early by visiting www.nywolf.org.

Saving a Species – An Inside Look at the WCC’s Endangered Species Program

DESCRIPTION:  The Wolf Conservation Center participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) and Recovery Plan for two different kinds of wolves, both critically endangered: the Mexican gray wolf and the red wolf.  But what does this really mean?  Join us to learn what it takes to help save a species from the brink of extinction. Guests will get an inside look at the process of matching potential breeders, what criteria must be met to recommend wolves for release into the wild, the husbandry challenge of caring for animals that we rarely see and how it feels to help Mexican gray wolves and red wolves resume their rightful place in the wild.  Guests will visit the WCC's Ambassador wolves as well as the WCC’s critically endangered Mexican gray wolves.  Each guest will receive an official 2014 Wolf Awareness Week poster!
