Danbury Westerners sign two new players to 2015 roster

DANBURY WESTERNERS ADD AGRESTI AND LOVE TO 2015 ROSTER

The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Catcher Jason Agresti and Infielder Taylor Love for the 2015 season.

Jason Agresti is a catcher from Yorktown Heights, NY and is currently a freshman at Binghamton University. Agresti has a strong athletic frame as a catcher, and in high school he was a four-year standout catcher for John F. Kennedy Catholic.  His statistics at Kennedy Catholic were punctuated with a career batting average of .410, supported by 15 home runs, 125 hits, and 94 RBI.  His senior year Agrresti led the Kennedy team to a 22-7 record.  Agresti was a two-year team captain and a three-year all-league and two-year all-section choice.  Agresti was a first team All-NYC selection as a senior, and was named to NYC Mayor’s Cup “Best in the City Team”, while also being listed on the 2014 MLB Team Draft Board.

Taylor Love is a junior shortstop from Shreveport, LA and attends Louisiana Tech University. Love has been selected to the 14-member preseason 2015 All-Conference USA team. Love ended the 2014 season starting in all 47 games for LA Tech and posted a team-leading batting average of .318 with 12 doubles, two home runs, 17 RBI, and 14 walks.  Love also finished with a .385 on base percentage and led LA Tech hitters with 56 hits.  Among C-USA hitters his .318 batting average ranked him eighth in the league.  Love was tied for sixth in the league with 11 stolen bases. Love led his team with 17 multiple-hit games and had a nine game hitting streak from March 16 to April 2. Love was named to the conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Paul Schaffer, President of the Danbury Westerns, commented, “The signing of Jason and Taylor are important steps as we build our 2015 roster.  Both players have demonstrated an ability to hit for average and are viewed as leaders.  We are fortunate to have Jason and Taylor playing for us this summer.”

The 11th annual Danbury Westerners Charity Golf Outing to benefit the Westerners and Western Connecticut State University’s Melissa E. Fenwick and Harold B. Schramm Justice and Law Administration Endowed Scholarship will be held on July 13th at Richter Park, Danbury.  Registrations are now being accepted; to sign up please contact Paul Schaffer, Danbury Westerners President at 203-241-4655 or paul@danburywesterners.com.
