Wooster School 6th Grade Outstanding Citizenship Recognition: Tyler Woods

The student who we are recognizing has shown that while they strive to get the most that they can out of every learning opportunity, they also think and act beyond their own needs and demonstrate respect, generosity, and kindness towards our school community in myriad ways.

The last time we had a Citizenship Chapel, Mr. Lingenheld described the abundance of stories, anecdotes, and examples of positive citizenship as being “like uncorking a well-shaken bottle of soda… these observations simply erupt in a fizzy, bubbly cloud of goodness”.

However, sometimes this outpouring of feedback does not happen all at once in a bubbly accolade- sometimes a teacher sends an email on any given day or stops one of us on the way to lunch or in the hallway to share something great that a student has done, and it is a perfect example of how the positive actions of one person can motivate someone else to pass the positivity forward…and so it continues, and here we are.

A couple of weeks ago, it was the kindness and generosity of our 6th grade honoree that inspired Ms. Taraz to send out an email after he offered to carry a classmate’s backpack when they arrived to school on crutches. And at the end of this past citizenship period, when we reached out and asked for feedback from the community, anxiously awaiting the “bubbly cloud of goodness,” this same student’s name came up again and again.

Here are just a few of the many things that the adults in our community have to say about this young man… “I am struck by his proactive attitude and ever-increasing sense of agency over his learning. He does not shy away from a good challenge! His success in class has been in large part due to his determination to succeed… Time and time again, he has exemplified a kind and tender heart.  He is always cheering on his peers and goes out of his way to encourage and support others. He is a really amazing kid!... He is one of the most fun loving and energetic players we had on the basketball team. He accepted all of the challenges we threw at him… He likes to have fun with his peers and be a kid, but as soon as it is time to get to work, he’s on it… Being around his positive energy and smile always reminds me how grateful I am to be working in a school environment. He is always finding a way to make others laugh… He is a great friend and is always conscious of the feelings of other students… He is truly awesome.”

He brightens the day of so many members of our community with his kind heart, great sense of humor, positive disposition, and fun loving spirit. We are very honored to recognize Tyler Woods for his outstanding citizenship!
