Naugatuck Chamber's Duck Day & Race Next Sunday, June 7th-Live Music, Chili Cookoff, Halloween in June & More

Billed as “The Event of Year!”, the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce’s 10th Annual Duck Day and Race will be held next Sunday, June 7th offering many popular activities and events including a Haunted House, Duck Race, “Halloween in June” Costume Contest, Dunk Tank, and a Corporate Duck Decoration Contest. New this year will be a Chili Cook-off featuring Naugatuck and Waterbury’s “People’s Choice Awards” winners with local celebrity chefs and cooks from the Naugatuck and Waterbury Fire Departments.

The Duck Day and Race event is one of the largest duck race fundraisers in Connecticut with several thousand attendees. Admission is free and the festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. At 2 p.m. sharp on June 7th, more than 20,000 rubber ducks will be dumped from the Whittemore Bridge at the corners of Maple and Water Streets. The ducks will race down the Naugatuck River to be among the first 25 ducks to win the competition.

Festivities on Maple and Water Streets throughout the day will include games, food and craft vendors, circus talent, business booths, live music by Blu Union and the Rubber City Blues Band, free tattoos, a Dunk Tank for dunking teachers, local officials and business leaders, a Bounce House, plus much more. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day, and in advance, for the Duck Race, and tickets must be purchased to be eligible to win 1 of 25 prizes.

Raffle prize tickets can be purchased at Corso Printing & Engraving, Mountview Plaza Wines and Liquors, Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppes, Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan, the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce and the Waterbury Regional Chamber.

The top ten prizes to be awarded for winners of the 2015 Duck Race include the top prize of $5,000 cash; a 5 CT diamond 14K yellow gold ladies diamond tennis bracelet; $500 cash; Apple iPad Air 2, 16GB with WiFi; $500 Roma's Ristorante gift certificate; $125 gift certificate for Jesse Camille’s restaurant and $125 certificate for Tavern 1757; $150 gift certificate for a private chocolate experience for up to 15 people at Fascia’s Chocolates; four tickets for a Broadway 2015-2016 Series performance at The Palace Theater; One year family membership at Naugatuck YMCA; and $300 gift certificate for The Club Health and Fitness in Naugatuck.

Winners of the popular “Halloween-in-June” Costume Contest will be eligible to win cash prizes, $2,900 in total. To be a contestant, participants should wear their costume to Duck Day and register at the “Halloween in June” Costume tent on Maple Street between 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on June 7th. Contest categories will include: Best Duck, Overall and Runner Up, and the judging criteria will be creativity, originality and presentation. Anyone entering the Costume Contest will receive a free ticket to the Haunted House located under the Town Hall Grange.
