Longtime Bethel Resident, Janet Peterson, has passed at 87

Janet E. Peterson passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 in Stroudsburg, PA after a brief illness. 

She was born in Danbury, CT on November 16, 1927 to the late Edward and Anne (Leheny) Gates and lived most of her life in Bethel, CT. On October 15, 1950, she married the late Jerry Peterson, Sr. and together they built the family home and raised their children in the corner house on Henry Street.

Janet will always be remembered for her good natured sense of humor and her penchant for having fun.  She is survived by her three children: Karen Maurath and her husband Jim Maurath of Stroudsburg, PA; Kathy Peterson and Steve Swain of Onancock, VA; and Jerry Peterson Jr. and his wife Jillian Peterson of Newtown, CT.  In addition, she leaves behind her two grandsons: James Maurath and his wife Anya and Patrick Maurath.  She also leaves a cherished great grandson: Alex, and her beloved cat: Lucy, along with numerous nieces and nephews.  She will be forever in our hearts and leaves us many loving memories of our times spent together.

The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Thursday, July 23 at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bethel Funeral Home. 

Janet was a lifelong animal lover who provided a happy home to a number of cats and dogs, many of them rescue animals. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society, 147 Grassy Plain Street, in Bethel, CT 06801.
