William H. Ochs III, 76, of Waterbury and formerly of Bethel, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Danbury Hospital. He was the loving husband of Carol (Dunikowski) and much loved father to Alicia Craybas (Doug), William IV (Shannon) and Catherine.
Bill was born on October 12, 1938 in Danbury to Lillian R and William Jr. He grew up in Danbury and graduated from DHS in 1957 where he played Varsity Football. After graduation, Bill joined the US Navy for 9 years. Bill's entire work career was at CL&P /Northeast Utilities as a meter reader supervisor.
Bill loved the Danbury Racearena races at Danbury Fair. He enjoyed his daily DD coffee, watching NASCAR, fishing on Ormond Beach /Daytona at his condo and Hunting in Vermont. He and Carol enjoyed Las Vegas and Atlantic City trips after retirement.
Bill was active in his kids sports and activities while in Bethel. He coached and helped with BMX, Softball, Pop Warner and Chain Gang for BHS Wildcat football. Bill could always be found with an Evermore extra dark cigar dangling from his mouth. His trademark some would say.
In the late 70's to mid 80's, He was Bethel's original ice cream man. Bill would always toss gum to the kids so that no child was left without a treat.
Bill adored his grandchildren, Zachary, Jake, Ty, Sophia, Billy, Cassandra and Kayla. He is also survived by his sister, Glenda Saunders (Randy) and nieces and nephew.
Bill loved to tease, joke and make people laugh. He was a great friend to many and will be forever missed.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at 10am at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
