Former Bethel Teacher, Sarah "Sally" Emrich, has passed at 74

Sarah "Sally" Emrich, 74, of Brookfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29th, 2016. Sally was born to the late Frank and Katherine Harrington on September 30, 1941.

She grew up in Scarsdale, NY, graduating from Scarsdale High School in 1959. She received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Cortland in 1963. In 1965, she married Robert Emrich and shortly after they moved to Danbury to start a family. They spent many happy years in Danbury, developed life long friendships and then relocated to Bethel. Sally returned to teaching in 1985 and then obtained her Masters and Professional Degree in Education from Western Connecticut State University. She was a beloved First Grade teacher at Rockwell Elementary School in Bethel for many years.

Sally enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, playing bridge and could often be found shopping at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. She loved traveling, especially to Bermuda. She was a wonderful dance partner to her husband. Sally had a large circle of friends, from the Danbury Crew to her neighbors in Bethel to her teaching colleagues; all of whom were an important part of her life. She was a devoted wife, celebrating 50 years of marriage this past year. A loving and dedicated mother and grandmother as well as a favorite teacher, she will be missed by many.

Sally is survived by her husband Bob of Brookfield, CT; her daughters, Kristin (Warren) Geller of Demarest, NJ and Pamela (Jeff) Flach of Frederick, Maryland; grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah Geller and Sullivan and Teagan Flach; her sister-in-law Janet Emrich; and her siblings Daniel Harrington and Patricia Harrington.

A memorial service to honor Sally's life will be held in late May. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in her memory to Regional Hospice and Home Care Center in Danbury. The Emrich Family would like to thank the staffs at Danbury Hospital and Regional Hospice and Home Care for taking such wonderful care of Sally during her final days.
