Bethel Artist Featured in Juried Fine Art and Crafts Show at Ives Concert Park

Three recent Western Connecticut State University graduates and two current students have been awarded Art at Ives scholarships that will enable them to display their work alongside professional artists during the second annual Art at Ives, Juried Fine Art & Crafts Show on Memorial Day Weekend at Ives Concert Park in Danbury.

Jasmine Bailey, of Torrington, recipient of a Bachelor of Music in Audio and Music Production with a minor in Art, will display her senior capstone project, the animated short film "Star Story." Bailey also will have ink drawings, mixed media illustrations and paintings on display and for sale. Killian Bradbury, of Bethel, recipient of a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Art, will display her illustrations; and Taylor Dalton, of Colebrook, recipient of a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, will present her ceramic endeavors. Bailey, Bradbury and Dalton graduated from WestConn on May 21.

Nghiep Luu, of Danbury, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Supervisory Management, will display his origami creations and give demonstrations on the ancient art of folding during the three-day event. Brian McCarley, also of Danbury, who is pursuing a Master of Science in Counselor Education - Clinical Mental Health, will display his ceramic and leather workmanship.

The WCSU artists were selected to participate in the event after submitting an application and images of their work. Those selected received a "scholarship" in the form of a free booth to exhibit and sell their creations.

The Friends of the Ives nonprofit organization will host the second annual Art at Ives show from Saturday, May 27, through Monday, May 29, at Ives Concert Park on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The three-day event will feature high-quality original works from more than 50 artists in a diverse scope of art forms representing every major category. Food and music, along with art classes, demonstrations and children's events, also will be included. The event will take place rain or shine with gates open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Tickets are $5 for each day; children under 16 are free.
