Main Street Rx Brings Hometown Vibe to Newtown’s Plaza South Shopping Center

Newtown Ct. Main Street Rx, a hometown themed pharmacy recently opened its doors in The Plaza South Shopping Center in Newtown, one of Connecticut’s most quintessential family communities. Says owner and Newtowner Andy Delillo, “Newtown has a small-town aura. It’s everybody’s hometown.  No big box retailers here. It’s the perfect community for Main Street Rx” Delillo opened the business along with his wife Diane and son Aj. “Yes, it’s a family affair, all around,” he adds.

According to Delillo, Main Street RX’s advantage over national retailers like CVS and Walgreens is personalized service and best of all, free delivery throughout the state. “This service will be a real boon for Connecticut’s seniors and shut-ins,” he adds.

The Delillo’s are eager to play an active role in in the community envisioning Main Street RX as more than just a drop off for prescriptions. Later this month the pharmacy is participating in an arts festival in Sandy Hook and sponsoring a NARCAN event at Plaza South to highlight anti-drug abuse awareness and encourage individuals, families and communities to take action against substance abuse.

“Like our sister store in Boca Raton, the concept is to bring back that old-time pharmacy feeling with a homey vibe.” Comments Andy, “As a matter of fact, when you enter the store, there are no glass showcases, instead wooden shelves and cabinets that we ordered from a local woodworking shop in Monroe along with planked floors in muted colors.” Retail will be very low-key featuring local products such as honey, candy, soap, etc. In addition, the pharmacy will be full service offering flu shots etc., overseen by long time pharmacist Roy Ciarlo who trained and worked for CVS for 25 years.

The Delillo family was in construction, but Andy found that in New England, the profession was too seasonal, so 8 years ago he opened a company which was a diabetic call center, working with the medical community and pharmacies in the area. It was just recently that he decided to go in to pharmacy business, opening a similar themed pharmacy earlier this year in Florida where the family also has a home.
