Wednesday celebrated the opening of a weatherized, energy efficient laboratory for learning green construction, commonly called an “E-House,” at Danbury’s Henry Abbott Technical High School.
An E-House provides architectural, carpentry, electrical and plumbing faculty and students with clean energy to support an energy efficient curriculum. It promotes hands-on field work towards the achievement of professional certification.
The structure at Henry Abbott was designed and built by its very own students and faculty to incorporate solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, Wi-Fi smart thermostats and energy-efficient heating, lighting and insulation. It also features a tube drain-back solar thermal system.
The project was made possible by Energize Connecticut and jointly administered by Connecticut Light & Power and The United Illuminating Co. The goal, now, is for students to install an E-House at every technical high school in the state.
