May Weekend at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum Celebrates Artist Tom Sachs and Opens Six New Exhibitions

The opening of a new exhibition series and a gala benefit are planned for the first weekend of May at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum.

Artist Tom Sachs is the honoree at the gala benefit on Saturday, May 2, where he will receive an award from designer Cynthia Rowley. The elegant event will be set amidst a captivating maze of exhibitions from the new Circumstance series, where everyday objects sit beside works of art. The party promises the opportunity to support The Aldrich while meeting some of today's most exciting artists and informed collectors, enjoying a gourmet dinner prepared by Abigail Kirsch, sculptural centerpieces designed by exhibiting artists, and one of Sach’s legendary boom boxes with a surprise playlist during the cocktail and coffee hours which bookend the evening.

The Gala will take place from 6:30 to 10 pm. For more information or to RSVP contact events manager Jamie Pearl: 203.438.4519, reservations@aldrichart.org.

The Circumstance series of exhibitions, featuring work by artists Virginia Poundstone, Nancy Shaver, Ruby Sky Stiler, Penelope Umbrico, Elif Uras, and B. Wurtz, will open at a public reception on Sunday, May 3, from 2 to 5 pm. There will be a family-friendly preview brunch for Aldrich members with trustees, curators, and artists prior to the public reception, from 12 noon to 2 pm. Visitors will explore galleries that have been transformed into “rooms” by the artists, who will contextualize their work by displaying it alongside art and objects of their choosing, offering insight into never-before-seen aspects of their practice. The free reception offers guided tours, family workshops, and the chance to purchase gourmet farm-to-museum lunchboxes prepared by No. 109 Cheese & Wine for a picnic on the Museum’s grounds.
