WCSU Department of Art to offer summer art classes

The Western Connecticut State University Department of Art will offer three month-long art classes and an intensive, one-day workshop at the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Participation is open to the public; you do not have to be a WCSU student to enroll.

The offerings will include:

June 1 – 26: A summer oil painting workshop, “Introduction through Advanced,” from 5 to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays in Room 244 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Ed Little will conduct this workshop open to all levels that will focus on the materials/products that are required to paint in oil; how to mix colors, glazes, impasto painting and alla prima painting. The workshop fee is $350.

June 2 – 25: A summer painting workshop, “Painting the Observed World,” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 244 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Christine Hartman will conduct this workshop open to all levels that will focus on the development of light, space, color and form. The workshop fee is $350.

June 2 – 25: A summer figure drawing workshop from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room 241 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Ed Little will conduct this workshop that will utilize live models as students draw the nude in a variety of poses. The class is recommended for students familiar and experienced with drawing fundamentals, as well as those with advanced-level drawing experience. The workshop fee is $350.

June 27: A one-day, intensive encaustic painting workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 248 of the Visual and Performing Arts Center. Instructor Lori Robeau will conduct the workshop for beginners in the ancient molten medium of pigmented wax. The workshop fee is $150; bring a bagged lunch and beverage.

The registration deadline for these offerings is Friday, May 29. Submit registration forms and payment to Lori Robeau in the Department of Art Office in Room 143 of the Visual & Performing Arts Center.
