Disocver New Teachers and Classes at Wilton Dance Open House

This year promises to be full of excitement and learning as the Wilton Dance Studio welcomes new and returning students from Wilton, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston and other towns with new options and beloved traditions for 2015-2016.

“Ours is a community dance school where learning and fun go hand-in-hand, and that guides our choices of classes, teachers and performances,” said director Brenda Froehlich, who is delighted to lead the school into its 27th year. This year, the school is adding new teachers and dance styles to its schedule, along with adult dance and fitness classes, expanding students’ options to develop their dance experience.

Students are invited to visit the studio during their upcoming Open House days, on September 3rd and 4th from 1 pm to 6 pm and September 5th from 10 am to 3 pm.  Students can meet teachers, get fitted for dance gear and register for classes, which begin on September 12th.

“We’re delighted to welcome back our beloved teachers Jan Danise, Aisha Saeed, & Kristin Prescott. They’ve helped our students develop great skills and the joy that can only come from the study and performance of dance,” said Mrs. Froehlich. Classes in ballet, contemporary/lyrical/modern, jazz and musical theater, hip hop, Irish step dance, and tap are all available, with many dancers opting for classes in several styles to create a well-rounded dance experience.

The studio is also continuing a new tradition started last year with its Competition Company. Lead by instructor Aisha Saeed, last year’s team completed a winning season with high rankings in its various regional competitions. Saeed said, “The Competition Team lets dancers grow in confidence and improve

multiple dance and life skill sets to name just a few of the many benefits, plus enjoy some great time with dance friends.” Because the school’s convenient location makes it easy to reach from many area towns, students have the chance to meet new friends from different schools.

Students also have the opportunity to meet new teachers and try something different, including a unique form called “Acro,” short for acrobatics. “It’s inspired by the circus and students develop agility, flexibility and strength through learning the tricks,” says instructor Mickey Lonsdale. Lonsdale is also teaching hip hop and contemporary classes. Other new staff members are Pam Lisi teaching ballet, Irish and contemporary and Brian Froehlich teaching Irish dance.

Also offered this year are adult classes in dance fitness, tap and Pilates. “So many of our dancers’ parents have asked how they can get involved, and this year we’re pleased to give them a way to do it,” said Froehlich.

One other tradition Wilton Dancer Studio students can always count on are the annual Nutcracker Ballet and Spring performances. “Our dancers really get a chance to shine in these special, full-scale productions held at the Wilton High School’s Clune Center for Performing Arts. These shows teach the art of performance and teamwork, and they’re beautiful to watch for family and friends,” said Froehlich. The special performances are offered to students in any style of dance who wish to be part of them.

The Wilton Dance Studio is located 941 Danbury Road in Wilton, across from Caraluzzi’s Georgetown Market. More information is available at www.wiltondance.com, or by calling 203-544-9007
