Our Rye HamletHub editor discovers something scary about Halloween decorations

As Halloween approaches, many families are gearing up for fun-filled night of candy and treats by purchasing costumes, candy and decor.

When our Rye HamletHub editor, Nicole Ball, was decorating her home with her two children in tow, she discovered something pretty darn scary.

NBC, airing a segment titled "Halloween Safety Tips for Parents and Children", interviewed Ball at her home in Rye last week.

Ball purchased strings of pumpkin lights. Upon arriving home, she read a warning label contained on the packaging.

Coated electrical wires of this product exposes you to lead, a chemical to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm, and in bold lettering the label read, Wash hands after handling.

"That freaked me out because my son and daughter were handling them extensively,"  she told the NBC Consumer Reporter Lynda Baquero.

"Halloween is supposed to be fun, but there are some scary information parents should know," said Baquero.
