STATE POLICE PROMOTE 20 TROOPERS
The Connecticut State Police promoted 20 Troopers to Sergeant, Lieutenant and Major during a ceremony at the State Police Training Academy on Thursday, April 2, 2015.
Dr. Dora B. Schriro, Commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and Colonel Brian Meraviglia, Commanding Officer of the State Police, formally promoted the Troopers during the ceremony. Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman also attended and addressed the promotees.
The following persons were promoted:
Major George Battle Major Battle was promoted from Captain and was serving as Acting Commanding Officer of the agency’s Bureau of Field Technology, Infrastructure and Transportation (BFIT). He will be the Commanding Officer of BFIT. Major Battle has earned two Unit Citation Awards during his 27-year State Trooper career. He holds a B.S. from Western New England College, an M.S. from Quinnipiac University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Major Battle lives in Cheshire with his wife and two children.
Major Stephen P. Castagliuolo Major Castagliuolo was promoted from Captain and most recently served as Executive Officer of the State Police Eastern District Headquarters. He begins his new assignment as Commanding Officer of the Professional Standards Unit. Major Castagliuolo has been a Trooper for 27 years and has served in many assignments, including as commandant of the State Police Training Academy and the executive officer of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. He has earned the agency’s Outstanding Service Award and two Unit Citation Awards. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Bryant College and a master’s from the University of New Haven. Major Castagliuolo lives in Stonington with his wife and three children.
Major Patrick O’Hara Major O’Hara was promoted from Captain and most recently was Commanding Officer of the State Police Training Academy. As major, he will be assigned as Commanding Officer of the Emergency Services Unit. He has been a State Trooper for 32 years. He earned an associate degree from Three Rivers Community College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class 229. He lives in Mystic with his family.
Major David Rosado Major Rosado was promoted from Captain and served most recently as Commanding Officer of the Internal Affairs Unit. He will now be Commanding Officer of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. A Trooper for 17 years, he has earned the agency’s Medal for Lifesaving and Medal for Outstanding Service. Major Rosado holds a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and a Juris Doctor from the UConn School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Connecticut. In addition, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class 249. Major Rosado lives in Glastonbury with his family.
Lieutenant Shawn Corey Lt. Corey was promoted from Sergeant and most recently served at Troop H in Hartford. His new assignment will be Executive Officer of the Office of Counter Terrorism. Lt. Corey has been a State Trooper for 18 years and has earned an Award for Meritorious Service, four Unit Citation Awards and the CT Veterans Wartime Service Medal. He lives in Hartford County with his child.
Lieutenant Jay DelGrosso Lt. DelGrosso was promoted from Sergeant and was most recently assigned to the Eastern District Major Crime Squad at Troop E in Montville. He has been assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit. As a Trooper for 15 years, he has earned two Lifesaving Medals. He earned a B.S. from Southern CT State University. Lt. DelGrosso lives in Mystic with his family.
Lieutenant Kelly Kraynak Lt. Kraynak was promoted from Sergeant in the Bureau of Professional Standards and Compliance and will now serve as Commanding Officer at Troop I in Bethany. A Trooper for more than 15 years, she has earned the agency’s Medal for Meritorious Service. Lt. Kraynak holds a master’s degree from Boston University and is currently working on a doctorate degree in public policy. In addition to her duties at State Police, she is an adjunct professor at both Post University and Manchester Community College. Prior to becoming a State Trooper, she served in the Hartford Police Department. She lives in Manchester.
Lieutenant Seth Mancini Lt. Mancini was promoted from Sergeant, where he served in the Central District Major Crime Squad. He will now be Commanding Officer of the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit. Lt. Mancini has been a State Trooper for 15 years and has earned an Award for Outstanding Service. He has earned a bachelor of arts degree as well as a Juris Doctor. He lives in Connecticut with his family.
Lieutenant Rafael Medina III Lt. Medina was promoted from Sergeant in the Central District Major Crime Squad, where he will now become Commanding Officer. As a Trooper for 18 years, Lt. Medina has earned the Medal for Meritorious Service, the Medal for Lifesaving and an Outstanding Service Medal, as well as three Unit Citation Awards. He is also a recipient of the CT Veterans Wartime Service Medal for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1990-98. Lt. Medina holds a master’s degree from Central CT State University and a B.S. from Sacred Heart University. In addition, he earned a graduate certificate in Homeland Security from the University of Saint Joseph and is a Certified POST Instructor in Ethics/Internal Affairs Investigations. Lt. Medina lives in South Windsor with his wife and two children.
Lieutenant Michael Pendleton Lt. Pendleton was promoted from Sergeant and served in the Internal Affairs Unit, where he will remain with his promotion. During his 18 years as a Trooper, he has earned a Medal for Outstanding Service and a Unit Citation Award. Lt. Pendleton holds both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in criminal justice. He and his wife live in Suffield.
Lieutenant Marc F. Petruzzi Lt. Petruzzi was promoted from Sergeant in the State Police Bureau of Field Technology, Infrastructure and Transportation. He will now be Commanding Officer of Troop H in Hartford. Lt. Petruzzi has earned two Lifesaving Medals and a Medal for Outstanding Service. He holds a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree from the University of St. Joseph (USJ). In addition, he earned graduate certificates in Homeland Security from USJ and in Business Mastery for Public Service Professionals from UConn. Lt. Petruzzi lives in Glastonbury with his wife and two children.
Sergeant Mathieu Asselin Sgt. Asselin was promoted from Trooper First Class and was serving as Resident Trooper in East Granby. In his new assignment, he will move to Troop C in Tolland. During his eight years as a Trooper, Sgt. Asselin has earned the agency’s Medal for Outstanding Service and a Unit Citation Award. He has also been recognized three times with awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Sgt. Asselin earned a B.A. from Saint Anselm College. Prior to joining the Connecticut State Police, he was a Trooper in New Hampshire for seven years. Sgt. Asselin lives in Enfield with his wife and two children.
Sergeant Michael Dogali Sgt. Dogali was promoted from Trooper First Class and most recently served at Troop A in Southbury. He has been re-assigned to Troop L in Litchfield. A Trooper for nine years, Sgt. Dogali has earned a Unit Citation from the agency. Sgt. Dogali holds a B.A. in criminology. He lives in Newtown with his wife and three sons.
Sergeant Christopher Fongemie Sgt. Fongemie was promoted from Detective and had been serving with the Central District Major Crime Squad. He will now be assigned to Troop H in Hartford. He has been a Trooper for nine years and has earned a Medal for Lifesaving, a Medal for Meritorious Service and four Unit Citation Awards. Sgt. Fongemie holds a bachelor’s degree from Central CT State University and a master’s degree and graduate certificate in Homeland Security from the University of St. Joseph. He is married and the father of two and lives in Plainville.
Sergeant Alessandro Giannone Sgt. Giannone was promoted from Trooper First Class and was most recently assigned to the Legal Affairs Unit. His new assignment is at Troop H in Hartford. A Trooper for eight years, he has earned the agency’s Commissioner’s 20 Award and the M/Sgt. Slattery Shooting Award. In addition, he has been recognized twice with awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Sgt. Giannone earned a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and a Juris Doctor from UConn School of Law. Sgt. Giannone and his family live in Connecticut.
Sergeant Kevin Manzolillo Sgt. Manzolillo was promoted from Trooper First Class and will now serve at Troop F in Westbrook; he most recently was assigned to the State Police Training Academy. A Trooper for eight years, he has earned two agency Unit Citation Awards. Sgt. Manzolillo earned a B.S. from the University of New Haven, with certificates in fire/arson investigation and forensic computer investigation. He currently serves as the law enforcement component manager for the CT Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. He lives in Clinton with his family.
Sergeant John McDonald Sgt. McDonald was promoted from Trooper First Class and has been assigned to Troop K in Colchester; he most recently served at Troop H in Hartford. As a Trooper for nine years, he earned three Awards for Outstanding Service and an Award for Meritorious Service. Sgt. McDonald holds a B.S. from Fairfield University and a master’s from UConn. He lives in New Britain with his wife and children.
Sergeant Brian L. Narkewicz Sgt. Narkewicz was promoted from the rank of Detective and will remain in the Polygraph Unit. During his 14 years as a Trooper, He has earned one Award for Meritorious Service, five Unit Citation Awards and a CT Wartime Service Medal. Sgt. Narkewicz completed the Command Training Program in the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management at Babson College; he previously served nine years as a police officer in Massachusetts. He lives in CT with his wife and child.
Sergeant Kenneth Ventresca Sgt. Ventresca was promoted from Detective and will now serve at Troop G in Bridgeport; most recently he was assigned to the Western District Major Crime Squad. As a Trooper for nine years, he has received two Lifesaving Awards. Sgt. Ventresca attended the University of New Haven and lives in Oxford with his family.
