State Police Detectives New Milford Shooting, Officer Injury

State Police detectives from Western District Major Crime (WDMC) are investigating a shooting in New Milford which resulted in the injury of a New Milford police officer.

On June 26, 2016 at approximately 2:30 p.m. the New Milford Police Department was dispatched to 30 Candlewood Lake Rd. South for a reported disturbance. A white male, later identified as Kevin Mohan, was in possession of a handgun in the apartment complex making threats.

Upon arrival responding New Milford police officers located Kevin Mohan, and attempted to diffuse the situation. Mohan refused to comply with the officers orders to drop his weapon, and fired at least one round from his handgun in the direction of the New Milford officers striking Officer Charles Cochran in the ankle. New Milford police officers subsequently disarmed Mohan and took him into custody after successfully deploying a Taser.

Officer Cochran was transported to New Milford Hospital where he was treated and released. Kevin Mohan was transported to New Milford Hospital for evaluation. Upon release from New Milford Hospital Mohan was held on bond pending his court date.
On June 26, 2016 at approximately 5:00 p.m., at the request of the New Milford Police Chief and the State’s Attorney office, WDMC detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Charges: Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
Breach of Peace

Court: Danbury Superior Court
