Grant Awards for Camp Herrlich Programs

This December, Camp Herrlich was awarded the John T. Sloper Community Fund Grant through Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.  This grant will help fund life-saving medical equipment for Camp Herrlich’s programs, including new AED batteries and pads, and EpiPens.  This equipment will enable Camp Herrlich to keep our participants safe through our Summer Day and Sleepaway camps, After School Programs, Outdoor Education programs, and retreats.  Camp Herrlich serves children and adults from all over New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.  Program partners include the Carmel and Pawling Central School Districts, Carmel’s Boy Scout Troop 1, Mission Church, Camp Kesem’s SUNY Stony Brook charter, the Putnam County Youth Bureau, and many other church and school groups.

Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley serves all of Dutchess, Putnam and Ulster counties and is a driving force in philanthropy in the region. Administering more than $53 million in assets, we work with donors to provide grants and scholarships, establish endowment funds for nonprofits and other charitable causes, and collaborate with government, private foundations and local leaders to address current and emerging needs. The John T. Sloper Community Fund was established at the Community Foundation and endowed with the proceeds from the sale of Sloper-Willen Community Ambulance Service.  Founded in 1958 by John T. Sloper, the company motto was:  “That lives may be saved.”  This fund was established to honor the legacy of John T. Sloper and the Sloper-Willen Community Ambulance Service, to promote and encourage people and organizations to provide emergency medical services, and to save lives.

Camp Herrlich was also given a grant from the Pawling Rotary Club towards their ACEKids! Theater Program.  Camp Herrlich’s ACEKids! participants will be performing Spamalot – Young @ Part edition at Pawling Middle School, Disney’s Aladdin Kids at Pawling Elementary School, and a selection of songs from Disney’s Aladdin Kids at Matthew Paterson and Kent Elementary Schools in the Spring.
