Medical Staff of Putnam Hospital Center spreads cheer to area charities

The holiday season brought some extra cheer to five Putnam County organizations helping the needy.

The medical staff of Putnam Hospital Center donated $5,000 to five food pantries. Each recipient received $1,000 and included the Philipstown Food Pantry, Putnam Community Action Partnership (CAP) Food Pantry, Gilead Food Pantry, St. John the Evangelist Food Pantry and Putnam Valley Community Food Pantry.

Representatives from the organizations visited Putnam Hospital Center on Tuesday, Dec. 27 to receive their checks from medical staff President Dr. Michael Nesheiwat.

“On behalf of the Medical Staff at Putnam Hospital Center, it is our honor and privilege to contribute to these local food pantries and assist them with the great work they do to help people in our community.  They are not only the backbone of our community, but the very spirit that this season represents,” Nesheiwat said.

The donations were greatly appreciated.

“Putnam Hospital Center is an asset to our local community in ways that many people may not realize,” Putnam CAP Director Judy Callahan said. “In addition to providing excellent health care, the staff is caring and aware of the many needs within the community. Today, Putnam Community Action Partnership was presented with a $1,000 donation from the medical staff in support of our food programs.  Healthy eating is an important factor in maintaining good health and the medical staff is helping to ensure that all people, regardless of income, have access to healthy food choices. Thank you PHC.”

The hospital’s medical staff began contributing funds to local food pantries in 2014 during the holidays and have continued the tradition ever since.
