Calling all volunteers for the first Relay for Life of Brewster

American Cancer Society is calling on all community members to participate in the annual Relay For Life of Brewster NY on June 10, 2017 at Brewster High School. The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, the event celebrates people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change.

During Relay For Life events, members of each team take turns walking or running around the track or path. Teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event. Relay For Life brings the community embracing their collective power to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer.

“Every passionate step taken demonstrates courage and strength,” said Rose Aglieco, Brewster’s Relay Volunteer Leadership Committee.  “Together, we are bigger than cancer, and funds raised by local teams help the American Cancer Society bring cancer to its knees.”

Cindy Battreall, of Team Acrish is the top participant for Brewster Relay, raising nearly $2000. Our top 3 teams, Team Acrish, Team Wells and Team Superman, have raised close to $9,000. There are several team fundraisers coming up in the next few weeks which are open to the community. Team Acrish will be selling fundraising tickets on Sunday May 7th   from 8:30am – 1pm at Temple Beth Elohim for a Napoleon Grill donated by Team Schech’s to the Rescue.  Team Schech’s to the Rescue will be hosting a Mother’s Day BBQ at Schech’s Pool Spa Patio on Sunday May 14th from 11-3.  Join them for gourmet food prepared by a Napoleon Grill Master and take a chance to win a Napoleon Grill.

Team Wells Captain, Tina Aulabaugh is hosting a Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski party on Monday May 15th from 5:30 -7:30pm.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Team Wells For more information visit www.touchstonecrystal.com/lana  and put Team Wells as your host.

Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.  “My family utilized free lodging provided by American Cancer Society while my father received treatments in NYC. We were so thankful to be close to him during this time, and not have the long commute each day” said Kate Corsitto of Schech’s Pool Spa Patio.

More teams, participants, sponsors and donors are still needed to help with this year’s event.
