New Sheriff's Office Motorcycle Dedicated to Memory of Mark R. Gilmore

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that his office has dedicated a new patrol motorcycle to the memory of Mark R. Gilmore, who was the Sheriff’s Senior Investigator in charge of the Narcotics Enforcement Unit at the time of his death on March 1, 2017. He died at age 54 from a heart attack suffered while off-duty.

Senior Investigator Gilmore also served as a motorcycle officer during his 28-year career in the Sheriff’s Office. “In recognition of Mark’s devotion to duty as a motor officer over the years, as well as his life-long personal love for riding, we thought it most fitting to memorialize Mark by emblazoning his name and badge number on the new motorcycle,” said the Sheriff.

The motorcycle was unveiled on Saturday, July 22nd, at a fundraising event held to benefit Sr. Inv. Gilmore’s widow, Amy, and his daughter Mattingly, and also to benefit Deputy Sheriff Michael Schmidt and his family. Deputy Schmidt, who has served as the Youth & Community Services Officer for the Sheriff’s Office, is battling a rare form of cancer. The event, organized by the Sheriff’s Office PBA, was a barbecue held at the Patterson Fire Department grounds that was attended by many Sheriff’s Office employees and their families, as well as a number of police officers from various area departments and other supporters.

Amy and Mattingly Gilmore attended the event and were surprised and delighted by the unveiling of the specially marked motorcycle, which bears the inscription “RIP Sr. Inv. Mark Gilmore” on its sides and “92”, his badge number, on its back. The motorcycle is a 2017 Harley Davidson Police FLHTP Electra Glide, which is used by the Sheriff’s Office for general patrol functions, motorcade escorts and parades.
