Dinner with the Doc health education series returns this spring

Health Quest will continue its interactive series, Dinner with the Doc, this April and May, offering five educational talks throughout the mid-Hudson Valley. Several healthcare providers from across the system will speak on breast health, spine care, weight-loss surgery, nutrition and pancreas and liver treatments.


The series features a complimentary dinner served at restaurants in Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam counties. Reservations are required two weeks in advance of the event due to limited seating.

First up — Dr. Ryan Swan will present “All Biled Up: Digesting Facts and Myths About the Pancreas and Liver” from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Bluestone Bistro, 10 IBM Road, Poughkeepsie. Swan, a hepatobiliary surgeon with Health Quest Medical Practice on the medical staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, will provide an introduction to the pancreas and liver, discuss misperceptions about these organs, as well as advancements in treatment that have occurred over the past decade. Ouch! My Back: What to Know About Minimally Invasive Surgery

Best of the Breast: From Screening to Surgery

A team of breast health specialists on the medical staff at Putnam Hospital Center including breast surgeon Dr. Lyda Rojas and plastic surgeon Dr. Karoline Nowillo, of CareMount Medical, and radiologist Dr. Donald Lien, of Hudson Valley Radiologists, will discuss all aspects of breast care, including cancer prevention, screenings, diagnosis, surgery and follow-up care.

When Diets Don’t Work: A Look at Weight-Loss Surgery

Learn information that can help you or your loved one make an educated decision about minimally invasive, weight-loss surgery. Dine on a nutritious meal and hear from Dr. Brian Binetti, a bariatric surgeon with Health Quest Medical Practice on the medical staff at Northern Dutchess Hospital, along with members of the hospital’s dedicated, multidisciplinary team, who will give an overview of the program’s comprehensive offerings. If you have tried lifestyle changes with no success, surgery may be your pathway to a healthier life. 

Food as Medicine: How Nutrition Impacts Your Health

Centennial Grille at Centennial Golf Club, 185 John Simpson Road, Carmel
Learn how food can be a powerful prescription for health and well-being. Cardiologist Dr. Lawrence Schek, Putnam Hospital Center’s vice president of medical affairs, and Jenna Godfrey, a registered dietitian at Health Quest who works at Putnam Hospital Center, will discuss how the foods we eat have a beneficial impact on our physical and mental health.
