Free Caregiver Course on October 12th at Putnam Ridge

Are you a caregiver to someone with mid-to-late stage Alzheimer's disease? Do you struggle with finding the right words, or need to know how to cope with changing behaviors? Join us at Putnam Ridge for a FREE Caregiver Communication course on Thursday, October 12th, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at 46 Mt. Ebo Road North, Brewster, NY.  This course is taught by the Alzheimer's Association of Hudson Valley.  As a sponsor of this event, Putnam Ridge will provide a complimentary dinner.  Space is limited and reservations are required by calling 845-278-3636.

Here are some highlights of the course:

Effective Communication Strategies

Individuals living with dementia often experience changes in behavior that can be confusing to friends and family. For caregivers, learning to decode messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language can help both parties to connect and communicate in meaningful ways.  This program will help to explain the communication changes that take place in a person with dementia, and identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

Dementia Conversations

Dementia Conversations will offer helpful tips to assist families with difficult conversations related to dementia, including going to the doctor, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans.  This program is primarily for those who have a family member or close friend experiencing Alzheimer’s or another dementia symptoms.

Both professionals and independent caregivers are welcome from all backgrounds in the greater-Brewster area.  If you are interested in attending this FREE course, please call 845-278-3636 to reserve your seat.
