Brewster Remembers at Annual Memorial Day Parade

VFW Post 672 and members of Brewster Girl Scout Troop 1421 are among the few community organizations to march in the annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 25th. Brewster High School's ROTC and Marching Band along with Boy Scouts are just a few of the youth groups in Brewster who honored our local heroes at the parade that began at the Brewster Fire House and ended with a wreath laying ceremony at Veterans Park. In addition, Putnam Lake also held their Memorial Day ceremony at the Putnam Lake Monument.

Our community is teaching the next generation that Memorial Day is an occasion to honor the men and women who died in all wars. Prior to Memorial Day, community groups including the Boy & Girl Scouts, gathered to place flags at over 1,200 Brewster/Southeast graves. Named the Bob Palmer project after the amazing World War II veteran who for over 30 years made it his personal mission to place these flags with his family and friends.

May we all continue to honor the memory of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

"The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission." ~ John F. Kennedy
