Brewster Officials Unveil a Concept Drawing for a New Downtown

The Village of Brewster held a press conference yesterday afternoon to unveil their first conceptual drawing of the new Brewster downtown they envision. The Village trustees and committees have been working on this project for over a year and recently announced they had secured a grant of 2 million dollars from the Empire State Development Corp. to help fund the initial phase of the project. The conceptual drawing showed a community of several buildings around a green space. The buildings consist of three floors of rental apartments above retail and office space and several covered parking areas adjacent to the Metro North Brewster Train Station. The project was dubbed a transportation Oriented Development or TOD by village officials who were joined by county executive Mary Ellen O'Dell and is intended to entice millennials to the area for the long term. Much more work is still needed before the concept becomes a reality. Mayor Jim Schoeneg stated Brewster is "on the leading edge of transformation, and in continued partnership with Putnam County, Covington Development, LLC and the supportive partners who have helped us along the way, we can invigorate our community and (Brewster) can become a vibrant place to live, work and play."
