BHS Boys' Varsity Track & Field Team Win League Championship

When they arrived, the Brewster High School Boys’ Varsity Track and Field team were labeled as the underdogs at the League 2B Championships which took place at the New York City Armory Track and Field Center on Sunday, January 15. By the end of the day, the BHS team, which was led by its seniors, had triumphed over the three other competing schools in the league and victoriously staked their claim to the 2017 League 2B Title. The league consists of Brewster, Lakeland/Panas, Somers, and John Jay Cross River.

Lakeland/Panas – 76

Somers – 61

John Jay Cross River – 27

BHS Bears Luca Riolo, Scott Jacobsen, Erik Jacobsen, and Dayshawn Siranaula won the 800 meter relay. Reggie Titre-Barnor won both the long jump and triple jump, and also placed third in the 55 meter hurdles. Jason Gonch won the shot put, while Nick Leahy placed second in shot put and third in the weight throw competition. Erik Jacobsen placed second in the 1600 meter race, and Tim Nilsen placed second in the pole vault competition. Luca Riolo and Scott Jacobsen placed second and third in the 600 meter races, while Jack Guida placed third in the 55 meter. Dayshawn Siranaula also placed third in the 3200 meter. Derek Diaz came in third in the high jump and placed fourth in both the long and triple jump. Kenny Arias placed third in triple jump, fourth in the high jump, and fifth in the long jump.

“This win was a total team effort – our Varsity athletes stepped up and raised their performances to another level,” Coach Scelia said. “I am proud of how well the team meshed to make this league title happen.”

The Brewster High School Boys’ Track and Field team will advance to the Northern County Championships (Putnam/Dutchess) on Saturday January 28 at the NYC Armory.
