The Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) recently visited Putnam Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to talk to veterans about an opportunity of a lifetime. On Feb. 22, HVHF representatives presented details of the upcoming Honor Flight that will take place on Saturday, May 20th, out of Westchester County Airport, which involves transporting local veterans at no cost to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at the national memorials and monuments that were built in their honor.
This generation of war veterans served their country and return to civilian life without fanfare or recognition. This time, their flight will be met with a full military welcome, including cheering crowds, bands, and a water cannon salute. The ground tour includes the World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Iwo Jimo Memorial, and changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery, among other things. On their way home, they will receive "mail call" of letters from people around the country thanking them for their service.
Putnam Ridge is pleased to bring awareness to this program in the Hudson Valley area and to be a resource for veterans. Pictured here are veterans Louis Sabatini, John Leather, and Alice Biros, with Cari Weizenecker, Putnam Ridge and HVHF volunteer.
