Award Winning Author Speaks at Mother/Daughter Tea in Brewster

At the Cultural Arts Coalition’s Mother Daughter Tea on Sunday, May 28th, author Gail Carson Levine spoke about her new book, “The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre”. Taking inspiration from the classic fairy tale Rapunzel, the story follows Peregrine, a young girl who was taken from her original oppressed Bamarre family and raised in a noble Lakti one, as she goes on a quest to free her people. Tailored to children ages 8 to 14, this fantasy novel is a prequel to Levine’s novel, “The Two Princesses of Bamarre.”

Levine showed the various covers “The Two Princesses of Bamarre” has had throughout the world and over the years since its release. In addition, she showed the previous cover for the new book, “The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre”, to compare to the published version released May 2, 2017. She explained her process of deciding to write this prequel and gave the audience background on the novel. After reading a thrilling excerpt from her book, she went on to describe her inspiration from fairytales and her future plans and answered questions about her career, books and the popular movie based on her book, “Ella Enchanted”. Levine also offered insight of how she became a writer, a process that didn’t begin until she was 39 and took nine years from then until she was first published. Gail Carson Levine will offer a free summer writing workshop through the Brewster Library.

Mothers and daughters attending this free event were treated to tea, cookies and teacakes followed by a meet and greet and book signing.
