“We are all writers. We are all born writers. Writing is innate; being an artist is human.” – Paula Vogel
In the spirit of the OUR TOWN theater workshops, HVSF will be hosting two community playwriting workshops in June. Our two-hour playwriting workshops will feature exercises that will teach you the basics of playwriting and storytelling. All participants will be invited to submit a short play to be considered for the OUR TOWN COMMUNITY BAKE-OFF: AN EVENING OF SHORT PLAYS performed by professional actors in our HVSF2 reading series this August.
Adults and Children ages 11+ are welcome, and workshops are free and open to the public. Just bring a notebook and a pen/pencil!
The OUR TOWN community playwrighting workshops will be held:
Saturday, June 11, 1:00pm-3:00pm
St. Philip's, Garrison
Sunday, June 12, 2:00pm-4:00pm
St. Philip's, Garrison
What is a "Bake-Off"? Created by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, the Bake-Off is a communal writing event in which writers are given a random list of “ingredients” to incorporate into their play (for example: a kitchen sink, a front porch, and a withheld secret) to help inspire creativity and give writers permission to play.
Plays will then be read by a team of HVSF artists, and a few will be selected to be performed at HVSF2’s OUR TOWN COMMUNITY BAKE-OFF: AN EVENING OF SHORT PLAYS on August 11 at the Depot Theatre in Garrison, NY. Further submission details coming soon!
