Author Carol Brier to speak on John Jay at Kent Library April 3

Come to the Kent Library on Monday, April 3rd from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and learn about John Jay in Bedford. Presented by former trustee of the Friends of John Jay Homestead, author, publisher and administrator of the John Jay Forum, Carol Brier will discuss her new book, Mr. Jay in Bedford : John Jay in the retirement years, 1801-1829. The John Jay Homestead State Historic Site is located in nearby Katonah, NY, in Westchester County, and welcomes visitors to its formal gardens as well as the restored Jay house.

John Jay was dedicated to the cause of American independence, and is best remembered for his notable accomplishments during his career as a public official. This book examines the challenges faced by John Jay during the last years of his life with particular attention given to the qualities in his character that enabled him to achieve success not only as a public official, but also in his retirement. Other topics that will be covered will be John Jay's family, the War of 1812, the Erie Canal, steamboats, his friends and much more!
