Health Quest announces new CEO

Health Quest Systems, Inc. President Robert Friedberg has been appointed CEO of the leading nonprofit healthcare system in the mid-Hudson Valley. Friedberg is the successor to Luke McGuinness, who retired at the end of 2016.

Friedberg has more than 30 years of healthcare management experience. He joined Health Quest in January 2014, first serving as the President of Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Executive Vice President of Health Quest and then President of the health system.  Before coming to the Hudson Valley, he was the Executive Vice President of Operations at Cadence Health in Winfield, Ill., and President of Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Ill.

During his tenure, Friedberg has been instrumental in the rapid growth and expansion of the Health Quest system, including the planning of the $510 million, 696,000-square-foot, seven-level inpatient pavilion at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Construction began in 2016 and is expected to be completed in June 2019.

As President and CEO, Friedberg oversees Health Quest’s network of facilities throughout Dutchess, Ulster, Putnam, Orange, Columbia and northern Westchester counties. These include three award-winning hospitals — Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie  — along with multiple Health Quest Medical Practice primary care and specialty locations, two Urgent Care locations and affiliates including the Thompson House, a 100-bed skilled nursing facility on the Northern Dutchess Hospital campus, Health Quest Home Care and The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology services in the region. Health Quest will add Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Conn., to its family in 2017.

Friedberg received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester in New York and his master’s degree in Health Administration from Cornell University in Ithaca.
