Brewster Library Expansion to Meet Programming and Accessibility Needs for All Patrons

The Brewster Public Library Trustees are looking to modernize and expand their facility located at 79 Main Street in the Village of Brewster. The approved ballot referendum includes the Town assuming an ownership interest in the building and to issue bonds not totalling more than $2,938,000 to be repaid over a period of up to 25 years. A 15 year bond would be $31 per year per average household ($350,000). Considering the cost of buying books or movies, paying for homework tutors or computer trainers, admission to museums, and fees for downloading music or magazines, the $31 price tag is nominal.

The Brewster Public library provides a valuable resource to our community.  The collection now contains over 25,000 items including books, newspapers, magazines, videos, DVDs, books on tape and CD, and Music CDs. Anyone living or working in the town of Southeast or Village of Brewster may apply for a library card which may be used at all 71 libraries in the Midhudson Library System.  The Brewster Public Library’s public access computers provide free Internet access as well as word processing software and the electronic catalog. Online resources include Freegal, Hoopla, Ebook Digital downloads, and Digital Magazines

The library offers story times and special programs for children of all ages; school visits, and homework help for students. The library also offers computer instruction, lectures, art exhibits, writing and photography workshops, and book discussion groups and so much more.

In a recent email, Library Director, Gina Loprinzo stated "Over the coming weeks, we'll be providing all the information you need to make an informed decision about the proposition that will be on the ballot in November.  We would like to thank Armanda Famiglietti for creating this informational video, which explains the need for change."

On October 5th at the regular Town of Southeast Board meeting, the library's architect will be presenting a detailed planned to the Town Board. The public is encouraged to attend.

If you have any questions regarding the referendum, call the Library Director, Gina Loprinzo at 845-279-6421 or email her at director@brewsterlibrary.org.
