Reclaiming History for the Future

On Saturday August 29th at 8 am the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition (TOSCAC) and the Brewster Theater Company (BTC) join forces to reclaim part of Brewster's History. They will begin the renovations of the Old Town Hall Theater located above the Southeast Museum located at 67 Main Street. The two groups have been attempting to get the project off the ground for over 5 years and tomorrow that dream starts to become reality. The members of both groups will begin the renovation work by removing all the old floorboards from the theater. The groups have been having fundraisers all across town the past few years with cabarets nights and plays produced and performed mainly at The Studio around The Corner, a small space located in the basement of the same building. They now have now raised enough funds to start the project. Anyone wishing to assist the groups may do so by grabbing their hammers and crowbars and reporting to the theater on Saturday August 29 at 8 am.

The building, which was built in 1896, is an architectural gem and its facade is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is owned by the Town of Southeast and located at 67 Main Street in the Village. It is an ideal venue for music concerts, theater productions, dance performances, film screenings, lectures and meetings and the two groups have a three part plan in place for complete renovation and re-opening of the theater, which can be viewed on their website. oththeater.org/about-us.html.
