Assemblyman Byrne Celebrates Summer Reading Challenge Participants

On Tuesday, October 24, Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I,Ref-Mahopac) hosted a special pizza party celebration to commemorate the accomplishments of local children who participated in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. Over 15 students from local school districts were recognized for their participation. The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to continue their educational studies into the summer months and incentivizes achieving self-set academic goals. Tuesday’s event offered the opportunity to celebrate their summer reading accomplishments.

"I’d like to congratulate the bright young men and women who participated in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge,” said Byrne. “It’s a joy to have the chance to be a part of this important program and watch participants develop healthy reading habits, which have a proven relationship to increased academic performance and goal-setting skills that promise to benefit these young people both inside and outside the classroom.”

The Summer Reading Challenge has proven to be a valuable tool in developing better academic habits and establishing collaborative relationships between students, schools, local libraries and elected officials across the state.
