Brewster Man Faces Felony Drug Charges

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Brewster man on felony drug charges.

In June of this year, a deputy sheriff assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) developed information that the defendant was selling prescription pills in the Town of Southeast area. The deputy was able to arrange for the purchase of pills from this subject. On October 20, 2016, the deputy located the subject and arrested him for the sale and possession of Alprazolam (Xanax).

John Power, 20, of Highview Terrace, Brewster was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree and with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree (with intent to distribute), felonies. The defendant was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford and released without bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the felony charges, the defendant could face up to seven years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000.00 for each charge.
