Somers teen charged with arson and burglary after he unlawfully entered North Salem home

On December 29, 2016, the New York State Police in Somers arrested Jeremiah R. Healy, age 17, of Somers, NY, who was charged with Arson 3rd Degree (a class C felony),  Burglary 2nd Degree (a class C felony), and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree (a class D felony) in connection with a house he unlawfully entered in the Town of Somers.

On December 10, 2016, New York State Police from the Somers barracks were called to respond to a burglary complaint at a house on Fox Den Lane in the Town of North Salem.  Interview of the homeowner revealed that upon his arrival at the house, he observed an unfamiliar vehicle pulling out of his driveway.  The home was subsequently found to have a broken kitchen window and fire damage to the interior.

With the assistance from the Westchester County Fire Cause & Origin Team, it was determined that a flammable accelerant was spread in several areas of the home.  Based on a vague description of the suspicious vehicle observed pulling out of the driveway, State Police Investigators were able to track down and identify the suspect who deliberately set the house on fire with gasoline.  The homeowner and the suspect were not acquainted with each other.

Healy was arraigned in the Town of North Salem Court and released on $2,000 bail.  He is scheduled to reappear in the court on 01/09/17.
