Southeast Woman Charged With Shoplifting Cosmetics

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Town of Southeast woman on a charge that she allegedly shoplifted items from the Kohl’s Department Store in that town. Ms. Laura A. Snyder, aged 34, of 973 Route 22, was charged with petit larceny in the incident.

A Kohl’s store detective called the Sheriff’s Office shortly before 7:00 p.m. on March 16th and reported that he was detaining a shoplifter at the store, which is located on Independence Way in Southeast. Deputy Sheriffs Keith Simone and Daniel Hunsberger were dispatched to the scene, where the store detective advised them that he saw Ms. Snyder place three boxes of cosmetics in her handbag and then walk out of the store past the cash registers without paying for them. The store detective stopped her and the cosmetics, reportedly valued at over $100.00, were subsequently recovered from her handbag.

Upon the complaint of the store management, the deputies arrested Ms. Snyder for petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor. She was booked at the Sheriff’s Office and issued an appearance ticket returnable on April 4th in the Town of Southeast Justice Court. If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
