Kent Woman Charged With Shoplifting in Carmel

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Kent woman on a charge of shoplifting in Carmel. Ms. Avery A. McCrae, aged 31, of 77 Woodland Drive in Kent, is charged with petit larceny for allegedly trying to take merchandise from a florist shop without paying for it.

According to the complaint filed against Ms. McCrae, she allegedly entered the Carmel Flower Shop, located in the Putnam Plaza on Route 6 in Carmel, shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26th. She allegedly placed several items of unpurchased merchandise into her handbag and attempted to leave the store. The shopkeeper reportedly stopped and detained her and called authorities.

Deputy Sheriff Maxwell Greisenger was dispatched to the call. Upon the shopkeeper’s complaint, he charged Ms. McCrae with petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor. The defendant was subsequently booked at the Sheriff’s Office and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court, where she faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 if convicted of the larceny charge.
